An intimate wedding at Borgo Petrognano

A symbolic ceremony in the heart of Tuscany
M and G chose a charming and elegant estate in the Tuscan countryside to host their wedding day. Borgo Petrognano sits in the heart of Tuscany, perfectly positioned between Florence, Siena and Pisa, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards — a living postcard of the Italian countryside. The hamlet has 14 bedrooms spread across three buildings, including a medieval tower, and can accommodate around 30 to 34 guests for an extended stay, hosting events for up to 50 to 60 people.
The Evening Before
The day before the wedding, the bride and groom welcomed their guests at the borgo in the afternoon. After a swim in the pool and a change of clothes, everyone gathered for a pizza party on the left side of the terrace, where a pizzaiolo prepared and cooked fresh pizzas in a wood-fired oven right in front of the guests. The evening ended on a sweet note with a chocolate cake to celebrate the bride’s mother’s birthday — informal, warm, and exactly the right way to begin a wedding weekend.
The Wedding Morning
On the wedding day, all vendors arrived early: Armilla Beauty for hair and make-up, David Bastianoni Studio for photography, musicians from Firenze Classica, the DJ, and Maurizio from Flowers Living for the floral setup. The bride got ready in the two-floor suite with her maid of honour and her daughter, then walked downstairs to the ceremony area where all the guests were already seated. She walked the aisle alone — and it was a truly moving moment.
The Ceremony
The symbolic ceremony took place in the small pergola beneath the panoramic terrace, accompanied by the elegant sounds of a violin and cello duo from Firenze Classica. At the heart of the ceremony was the sand rite: the bride, the groom and their daughter each poured a different colour of sand into a larger glass vase, the layers combining into something new and irreversible. Like the candle ceremony, the sand ceremony symbolises the coming together of two people into one family — and here, their daughter’s layer of colour made it something even more meaningful, a visible expression of the unity and harmony of the whole family.
The Aperitif
After the ceremony, guests moved to the swimming pool area — one of the most magical spots at Borgo Petrognano — for the aperitif. With the Tuscan countryside stretching out in every direction, it was the perfect setting to celebrate and let the afternoon unfold at its own pace.
The Dinner
Rather than dining under the pergola on the panoramic terrace as is typical at Borgo Petrognano, M and G chose a garden setting and asked to arrange the dinner in the lower garden. The space was transformed with a canopy of fairy lights overhead, creating a romantic open-air atmosphere, while Flowers Living decorated the tables and the live cooking area with their signature floral touch.
Among the details that made this wedding uniquely personal: each guest found a small bottle of local olive oil at their seat, a thoughtful Tuscan favour to take home.
The Cake, the First Dance and the Party
After dinner, all guests moved to the panoramic terrace for the cake cutting. The millefoglie — the classic Italian wedding cake, filled with fresh cream — was placed on a round table beneath the pergola chandelier, an unforgettable frame and the perfect setting for one of the evening’s most memorable photos. The first dance followed on the terrace, and the party began shortly after.
